SOFTBALL

It was a perfect week for the softball team in every kind of way. The Eagles not only went 3-0, but didn’t allow a run in the process. The week opened with a 3-0 win over Sterling and continued with an 18-0 demolition of Paulsboro, which included a 16-run second inning. The Eagles finished with week with a 4-0 win over Audubon. The game was a pitcher’s duel as Sydney Ponto struck out 14, allowing just three hits. Opposing pitcher Hunter Urban had a no-hitter going through six innings when West Deptford scored two runs on four hits to break it up. Audubon was hit for two runs in the third thanks to a few of Urban’s nine walks and a couple passed balls.

GIRLS' TRACK

Senior Megan Kirschling continued her standout season in the high jump. One week after breaking her own record at the Woodbury Relays, Kirschling placed. Kirschling was one of the few to make it through the first several heights without a bad attempt, and more than a third of the field had fouled out by the time the bar got to 1.69 meters (5-6.5). Kirschling ran out of steam at a height just barely over 5-8.

West Deptford also had a big showing at the , getting wins from the spring medley and distance medley relay teams. The distance medley team was dominant, as Megan Knoblock, Megan Sullivan, Karen Knoblock and Samantha Budd combined on a 13:14.56 split, beating the field by just under 19 seconds.

The sprint medley team of Kirschling, Claudia Theriault, Nicole Pinto and Budd clocked a 4:23.83, nearly 11 seconds faster than what the sprint medley team ran two weeks ago, beating out Haddonfield by just under three seconds to win the event.

Freshman Nicole Pinto continued to impress, clocking a 26.9 in the 200, and Megan Kirschling got a chance to race in the 400 hurdles, winning in 1:07.5, as the Eagles swept Woodbury, Audubon and Paulsboro.

GIRLS' LACROSSE

After the Eagles’ that brought her team’s record to 8-3, head coach Julie Catrambone said she was still looking for that signature win that made a statement as to how good the team really is. She knew the next two games against Cherokee and Haddonfield presented that chance. Unfortunately, West Deptford went 0-2 during that stretch, but showed just how close it is to reach that level. The Eagles got four goals from Paige Paratore and three from Rachel Krott in a 10-8 loss to Cherokee.

6-5 at halftime but that lead quickly turned into a 14-8 deficit in a 16-12 loss.

BOYS' LACROSSE

It was a mixed bag for the boys’ lacrosse team, as a pair of losses surrounded a 15-0 win over Camden Catholic. West Deptford was overwhelmed by St. Augustine Prep, 15-3, earlier in the week, and dropped a 6-5 heartbreaker to Haddonfield Saturday. West Deptford, which got a hat trick from Zach Kaestner, had a 2-1 lead at halftime. Joey Diaco was involved in everything the Eagles did setting up four of the five goals they scored. with just four minutes left in regulation.

BOYS' TENNIS

It took longer than the team would have liked, but West Deptford finally cracked the win column last week with a 3-2 decision against Overbrook. The singles players got the job done, earning a sweep.

Third singles player Brian Keane was the decider in the match; after falling behind to Overbrook’s Zack Moore, who took the first set, 6-4, Keane battled back to win the second and third sets, 6-4, 6-3, and clinch the win.

The Eagles also got two-set victories from Steve Marchunt and Kai Narayanan.
