WDHS Students Compete in 10th Annual Driver Safety Contest

Students from 10 are schools submitted 92 entries in the annual GlouCo driver safety contest. The winners will be announced at a screening in United Artists Washington Twp.

Entries have been submitted and the judging is over; now all that's left for the Gloucester County Highway Safety Task Force is to host the awards ceremony for its tenth annual driver safety student video contest.

The task force was created by Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton, and "aims to reduce motor vehicle deaths through education and enhanced enforcement," according to a press release from the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

Videos depict the dangers of distracted or drowsy driving and are meant to encourage greater parental oversight of teen drivers.

Nearly 100 of the 30-second video entries were submitted by students from 10 county high schools, including West Deptford:

  • Clayton High School
  • Clearview Regional High School
  • Delsea Regional High School
  • Gloucester County Institute of Technology
  • Kingsway Regional High School
  • Pitman High School
  • Washington Township High School
  • West Deptford High School
  • Woodbury High School

Winners will be announced at a free, public screening to be held 6:30 p.m. on April 24 at the United Artists Theaters in Washington Township. Students with a valid ID can enter to win one of three iPad door prizes.

“Distracted driving has impacted so many families throughout the country,”  said Dalton in a statement.

“We are asking are residents to come out and support the high school students who are raising awareness about the deadly consequences of this behavior.”
