West Deptford Basketball Teams Sweep Haddon Township

The boys' and girls' squads both improved to 6-3 on the season.

Two days after splitting with Collingswood in what was a rough performance for the girls and a sign of good things for the boys, the basketball teams pulled off a sweep of Haddon Township in a key Colonial Conference matchup for each side.

On the boys’ side, Justin Hansen led the way with 15 points as the Eagles took a back-and-forth game to overtime to beat the Hawks and match their win total from last season after just nine games.

West Deptford led at the half, 28-20, but Haddon Township stormed back in the third to seize the lead, before West Deptford clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter, allowing just two points.

For the girls, the game was largely over by halftime, with Danielle McKeown and Megan Kirschling combining for 35 points in a 50-41 win over the Hawks that saw West Deptford improve to 6-3 on the season.

The Eagles were up 10 at the break and were solid from there on, in what was a big bounce back from Tuesday night’s loss.

Kirschling had 18 and McKeown had 17 points, and Tarryn Bundy, back from an eye injury that sidelined her against Collingswood, chipped in 10.

Both teams are back in action next Tuesday against Haddon Heights, with the girls at home and the boys on the road. Both games start at 7 p.m.
