West Deptford Boys Get Hansen Back, Clobber Haddon Township

The Eagles rolled out to a 24-15 halftime lead on their way to a 58-39 win Thursday night.

The boys' basketball team has proved it can still compete down a man, posting a 2-1 record in the last week without starting point guard Justin Hansen.

With Hansen finally back on the court Thursday night and the team at full strength, Haddon Township never stood a chance.

The Eagles rolled behind Hansen and Tom Jakubowski, who combined for 36 points, crushing the visiting Hawks, 58-39.

Hansen, who was back after an absence due to a viral infection, didn't start, but came off the bench to contribute in a hurry, scoring 15, including a second-quarter trey off a Haddon Township turnover that seemed to break the Hawks' spirit and shift the momentum permanently West Deptford's way.

Jakubowski, meanwhile, dropped 21 on the night to lead all scorers, alternately bull-rushing into the paint or draining outside shots.

The senior inched closer to a milestone with the big game—Jakubowski is now just 13 points shy of 1,000 for his career, and could hit the mark Saturday at home against Holy Cross.

The Eagles also got solid contributions from Kyle Redrow (8 points), TJ Harcum and Ryan Flaherty (5 each) and Tim Krott (4).

The win is the fourth in the last five games for West Deptford, and with a playoff game at Barnegat looming next week, the Eagles have picked a good time to go on a hot streak.
