West Deptford Boys’, Girls’ Basketball Swept By Paulsboro

The Eagles came up frustrated on both sides against the Red Raiders.

The comeback fell a basket short.

After a brutal third quarter that saw them fall behind by 13, the girls’ basketball team roared back against Paulsboro Tuesday night with an 18-point fourth quarter.

But a last-second three-point attempt didn’t fall, and the Eagles left with the 50-47 loss.

Megan Kirschling and Danielle McKeown were a monster offensive tandem again, combining for 39 points on the night.

Paulsboro countered with the one-two punch of Tiaja Harrold and Alexus McKeithan, who scored 16 and 14 points, respectively.

On the boys’ side, Tom Jakubowski was the top scorer among either team, putting up 20 on the night, but that wasn’t enough to overcome a Paulbsoro offense that got scoring from everywhere to win, 77-59.

The Red Raiders had nine different players score in the game, including three in double figures. Paulsboro’s Juwon Alford and Saleem Little did major damage from beyond the arc, shooting a combined five-of-six on treys.

West Deptford was able to hang in the early going and the fourth quarter, but the Eagles got beat up in the middle portion of the game, getting outscored, 49-27, in the second and third quarters.

Besides Jakubowski’s 20 points, the Eagles also got 18 points from Justin Hansen and seven from Tim Fair.
