West Deptford Fall Sports Set to Return to Action

Each of the seven fall teams will be previewed over the next week.

With summer now nearing its end, students are set to return to the halls of West Deptford High School.

Many student-athletes are also ready to return to the field of competition, after weeks of summer training.

The fall sports calendar opens on Wednesday, Sept. 7 with the girls tennis team getting things started. Five other teams follow later in the week, and football finally gets back under the lights on Sept. 16.

As we did in the spring, West Deptford Patch will be previewing each of the teams, giving you a chance to learn some of the names and storylines that will be featured over the next few months.

Saturday, Sept. 3: Girls' tennis–Are Marthalyn Johnson and Jaelynn King ready to move up to No. 1 and No. 2 singles?

Sunday, Sept. 4: Boys' cross country–Who will emerge behind standouts Raymond Parsons and Phillip Palmer?

Monday, Sept 5: Girls' cross country–Will a group of freshmen mature fast enough for the team to compete in the conference?

Tuesday, Sept. 6: Field hockey–Does the loss of seven starters change the team’s reputation of conference favorites?

Wednesday, Sept. 7: Boys' soccer–The Eagles look to be loaded once again and could be in for a long playoff run.

Thursday, Sept. 8: Girls' soccer–Led by a veteran midfield, another championship could be coming the Eagles’ way.

Friday, Sept. 9: Football–With the loss of two star running backs, will the expectations remain as high for the defending conference champions?
