West Deptford Girls Seeded 7th, Boys 12th in NJSIAA Basketball Tourney

Tournament play opens in a little more than two weeks on Feb. 28.

There won't be any bus ride for the girls' basketball team to start the playoffs this year, after the Eagles officially earned the No. 7 seed in the South Jersey, Group 2 tournament and scored one of the opening-round home games.

The girls will take on Deptford (10-8) at 7 p.m. Feb. 28. The Spartans and Eagles have a pair of common opponents in Gloucester Catholic and Cumberland Regional.

While Deptford lost to Gloucester Catholic by two points at the beginning of the season, they also fell to the Rams by 27 more recently. West Deptford, meanwhile, lost a tournament game by five points to Gloucester Catholic.

Both teams have beaten Cumberland Regional. Deptford edged the Colts by two back in January, while West Deptford won by nine just before the playoff cutoff.

The boys, meanwhile, will be the No. 12 seed and head to No. 5 Barnegat in the opening round.

The Bengals, who play in the Shore Conference, are 13-6 on the season, and had won five in a row prior to a loss Tuesday.

It'll be the third meeting between West Deptford and Barnegat teams in the playoffs this school year; the in the fall, while the Eagles' earlier this week.
