West Deptford Girls' Tennis Falls in Playoffs

The Eagles lost to Pemberton, 4-1, in the opening round of the South Jersey, Group 2 tournament.

Coming in as the 9th seed in South Jersey, Group 2, the West Deptford High School girls' tennis team hit the road for Pemberton Thursday, hoping for a 9-8 upset in the playoff bracket.

Unfortunately, the postseason ended as quickly as it began, as the Eagles fell, 4-1.

First singles Marthalyn Johnson came away with the Eagles' only point of the match, knocking off Pemberton's Floren Reola, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). The doubles teams of Eisha Molina-Granger and Keriann Pfleger, and Elaine DeHart and Lauren Szybiak both fought back in their respective sets, but couldn't overcome slow starts on the day.
