West Deptford Golf Fifth at Sectionals

The Eagles finished in the top half of the draw Monday.

scored a fifth-place finish and placed a pair of golfers in the individual top 15 in the Central/South Group 2 sectional tournament at Wildwood Country Club Monday.

Battling thick rough and talented competition, senior Kevin Brockway and freshman Ritchie Stolz led the Eagles, shooting 84 and 86, respectively, as the team combined for a 366 on the day.

Matt Santarelli (95), Ryan Henry (101) and John Meagher (102) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles, who finished well off the pace set by champion Middle Township, which had two golfers finish in the 70s.

Brockway was 10th overall and Stolz finished 13th, as Middle’s David Hicks fired a 71 to win the individual title.

West Deptford coach John Cobb said the team did respectably, given the conditions.

“It was a solid finish for us,” he said. “For the most part, the place played tough.”

Cobb had high praise for Stolz’s performance, which he called “outstanding.” Stolz was coming off two weeks ago.

Weather permitting, the Eagles have to get right back at it Tuesday, with the Colonial Conference championships set for a 1 p.m. start at .
