West Deptford Scores Basketball Sweep of Collingswood

The girls won, 46-18, on the road, while the boys notched a 60-45 win at home.

Four weeks ago, the girls’ basketball team came out flat and never got it together down the stretch, losing an ugly one to Collingswood at home.

The Eagles weren’t going to let that happen again.

West Deptford roared out of the gate in their rematch with the Panthers Tuesday night, building a 30-11 lead at halftime on the way to a dominating 46-18 win.

Once again, the Eagles were led by the tandem of Danielle McKeown and Megan Kirschling, who each put up a dozen points on the night, and clamped down on defense to put the game—which could be a preview of the playoffs, depending how the seeds fall—away in a hurry.

Collingswood didn’t score more than six points in any quarter, and their total ended up being less than West Deptford scored in the second quarter alone.

While it was a breeze for the Eagles in that one, they’ll face a much stronger test Thursday afternoon, when the South Jersey Invitational resumes.

The girls will travel to No. 2 overall seed Willingboro for a 5:15 game, with a shot at the tournament’s Elite Eight on the line.

On the boys’ side, the script was much the same, only West Deptford was going for the season sweep over Collingswood.

And they did just that, building a 34-13 lead at halftime, before cruising to the 60-45 win.

Tom Jakubowski, Tim Fair and Justin Hansen all cracked double digits for the Eagles, who earlier this season won for just the first time in eight years against the Panthers.

The boys are back in action Thursday night, taking on Haddon Heights at home.
