West Deptford Softball Tops Cherokee With Baserunning Smarts

The Eagles got a heads-up play from Katie Boyd to win Saturday.

Katie Boyd managed some nifty baserunning to score the game-winner, and Marissa Linquist bounced back from a rough season opener against Paul VI to pitch seven strong innings and lead to a 2-1 win over Cherokee Saturday.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the fourth, Boyd reached first on a fielder’s choice, stole second and went to third on an error, then scored on a passed ball to give West Deptford the lead for good.

Linquist, who scored the game’s first run off an RBI single by Summer Wenzel, was in command on the mound, fanning six batters and allowing only one walk to beat Cherokee.
