West Deptford Sports Wrap: Golf, Girls’ Lacrosse Win, Tennis Will Wait

Mother Nature played at least a supporting role in Monday's outcomes.

The West Deptford girls’ lacrosse team put another one in the win column in a season that’s rapidly defying expectations, as Emily Whalin had a career-high six assists to go with a pair of goals as the Eagles demolished Sterling Monday, 17-8.

Maddie Waschko had four goals to lead the team, while Paige Paratore, Rachel Krott and Jess Hill each netted hat tricks in the win.

Here’s how the rest of the day played out:

Golf

West Deptford went 2-1 in a quad match at Burlington Township Monday, losing to the hosts, 160-177, but beating Delran and Pemberton, 177-188 and 177-214, respectively.

Eagles No. 1 Kevin Brockway had a solid day, carding a 41, and Ryan Henry and John Meagher each fired 45s. Burlington Township’s Drew Guarino and Ryan Liberty each shot 39, however, and were the difference-makers in West Deptford’s loss.

Boys’ tennis

Just when it looked like the Eagles had a shot at their first win of the season, Mother Nature stepped in. A sudden downpour from an isolated storm drenched the courts at Paulsboro just as things were about to get underway, forcing the cancellation of Monday’s match.

The boys will have their next shot at a win Wednesday, when they host Overbrook.
