West Deptford Sports Wrap: Softball Tames 'Dawgs

The softball and girls' lacrosse teams scored big wins Thursday.

Call this one the Sydney Ponto show.

The  junior was a triple short of the cycle, going four-for-four against Haddonfield Thursday, notching a home run, two doubles and a single and scoring four runs as the Eagles' softball team had little trouble on offense in a 17-5 win over Haddonfield.

Marissa Linquist pitched all seven innings for West Deptford, racking up five strikeouts on the afternoon.

Girls' lacrosse

The Eagles opened with seven unanswered goals and built an 11-1 lead at halftime, before cruising in the second half to a 17-4 win over Woodstown. Rachel Krott and Cara Spector scored four times each, while Jess Hill and Emily Whalin each had a hat trick for the Eagles.

Boys' tennis

West Deptford came close to putting their first W on the board for 2012, but couldn't muster enough in a 3-2 loss to Collingswood. Kai Narayanan got the Eagles' first win at singles all season, defeating Peter Siv, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2.

The match came down to first doubles, though, where Collingswood's Sam Harris and Pat Rader were able to overcome losing the first set to close out West Deptford's Jimmy Albert and Ethan Nicholas, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
