West Deptford Sports Wrap: Track Sweeps, Baseball and Softball Swept

It was an up-and-down Tuesday for West Deptford sports teams.

It wasn't a perfect day for sports, but the wins were there, and the losses weren't by much. Here's how Tuesday broke down:

Boys' track

The Eagles got big performances from their sprinters, as Connor Smith and Shai Mumford won the 100 and 200, respectively, and throwers Nick Pulli (shot put, javelin) and Todd Jarrell (discus) also won their events as the Eagles beat Collingswood, 81-59, and Lindenwold, 81-49, to get the sweep Tuesday.

The Eagles easily handled Collingswood, 111-29, and squeaked by Lindenwold, 73-67, to move to 6-1 on the season.

Baseball

A shot at two in a row came up short, as the Eagles lost to Kingsway, 6-3. Tom Jakubowski was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, but Kingsway's Jimmy Candelora topped that effort with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate with a triple and two runs scored. West Deptford's Ian MacQueen took the loss, going 5 1/3 innings.

Softball

The Eagles had no answer for St. Joe's pitcher Dominique Dandrea, who allowed just four hits all day and crushed a home run, as West Deptford lost, 3-2. Sydney Ponto had a double for the Eagles, who were somewhat able to capitalize off four St. Joe's errors, but not enough to score the win.

Golf

Matt Santarelli went low for the second day in a row, firing a 39 to lead the Eagles to a 174-215 win over Sterling. The golf team is now 6-0 heading into a key match with Haddonfield and Haddon Heights at Tavistock.
