West Deptford Wrestlers Take First Loss of the Season

The Eagles fell to fellow Group 2 and Gloucester County power Clayton/Glassboro.

For once, the deficit was too much.

’s wrestlers, who have had to battle back from way behind on several occasions this season, finally found themselves unable to claw back for the first time all season against Clayton/Glassboro Monday night.

This time, the gap was huge: Clayton/Glassboro jumped out to a 30-5 lead after seven bouts, meaning the Eagles would have to rack up several pins and hold their own wherever possible.

Well, the pins came, but Clayton/Glassboro snatched a couple of tight decisions–an 11-10 win by Cory Jacobs over Tyler Kaminsky and a 5-2 match-clinching win by Josh Ferentz over Scott Dennis–to put victory out of reach for the Eagles.

The 36-31 loss ends West Deptford’s winning streak at 18 and douses the team’s shot at an undefeated record.

West Deptford has little time to regroup, either, with Paulsboro looming Wednesday night and the start of the Group 2 playoffs less than a week away.
