Big Third Quarter Propels West Deptford Football Team Over Haddonfield

West Deptford is now 6-0.

The West Deptford High School football team scored 17 points in the third quarter to pull away for a 31-14 win over Haddonfield, according to nj.com.

The game was tied, 7-7, at halftime.

Quarterback Mike Daws’ 35-yard pass to Shai Mumford put West Deptford on the board first, and gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Bulldawgs tied things up in the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run from Mike McLaughlin.

The Eagles pulled away in the third quarter behind a 56-yard touchdown run from Devin Bates and a 4-yard touchdown run by Gerald Owens. Luke Cornelius added three points with a field goal during the session.

McLaughlin put Haddonfield on the board for a second time in the fourth quarter, tossing a 19-yard pass to Mark Walker for a score.

Joe Diaco put the exclamation point on the West Deptford win with a 26-yard touchdown run.

The Eagles remained undefeated, improving to 6-0.  They host Haddon Heights on Friday night, 7 p.m.

Haddonfield fell to 4-2. The Bulldawgs look to rebound when they host Collingswood on Friday night, 7 p.m.

Boys’ soccer

Haddon Township 5, West Deptford 2, Oct. 21: Kyle Wade led the way with two goals as Haddon Township handed West Deptford its first loss of the season. Mario Mandescu and Kyler White each had a goal and an assist in the win.

Elzo Dunn added a goal, and Ben Aha provided an assist. Goalie Scott LaPan stopped five shots.

Gary Simmons and Cole Van Dorick scored both of the Eagles’ goals in the first half, with assists from Ryan Kappre and Zach Peterson. Goalkeeper Perry Corsetti made five saves.

Ocean City 3, West Deptford 0: West Deptford suffered its second loss in as many games to fall to 15-2-1 for the season.

Girls’ soccer 

West Deptford 8, Lindenwold 0: Eight different players scored as the Eagles cruised to victory.

Sam Budd, Natalie Carrero, Tina Dougherty, Liz Fenton, Karen Knoblock, Valerie Palmer, Nicole Pinto and Rita Prinz all found the back of the net. Dougherty also had two assists, and Palmer and Pinto added assists.

Goalie Maggie Davis needed to make just one save in securing the shutout.

West Deptford 2, Haddon Township 0: Sam Budd and Paige Paratore each scored for the Eagles. Tina Furfari and Makenna Moreno each had an assist. Goalie Maggie Davis made five saves. 

West Deptford 4, Woodbury 2: Sam Budd found the back of the net twice to lead the Eagles to victory. Rita Prinz had a goal and an assist, and Gabby Sileo provided the other tally. Paige Paratore and Tina Furfari also had assists. West Deptford improved to 14-3-1.
