Division Titles on the Line for Freshmen, Junior Eagles

With just one week to go in the TCMFL season, two West Deptford teams will be battling to win their respective divisions while another gears up for a playoff run.

A huge weekend of football is ahead for West Deptford's midget teams. They will host Gloucester Township with tons of playoff implications on the line in the final week of the regular season.

Last week was a downer for the freshmen team. They entered Saturday's home game against Gibbstown with an opportunity to clinch the National Division title with a win. However, Gibbstown stepped up to upset the Eagles 20-12, tying them for first place in the division.

The result of the game has made the division wide open and Saturday's meeting with Gloucester Twp. all the more important for the freshmen. Gloucester Towsnip (5-3) is just one game behind West Deptford (6-2) and Gibbstown (6-2). The division could be decided in Saturday's meeting.

For the sophomore Eagles, they continued to cruise with an easy 42-6 win over Gibbstown. The victory pushed their record to 7-1, tied for the best in the league. The Eagles have already wrapped up their division and are eying the top seed in the playoffs.

The junior Eagles also won their game over Gibbstown in a 50-21 blowout. The win allowed West Deptford to remain tied atop the National Division at 6-2 with Pennsville. The Eagles defeated Pennsville just a week prior, giving them the edge in their own division. A victory over a weak Gloucester Township team on Saturday will give West Deptford the regular season division title.

The senior Eagles won't be playoff bound in 2012, but they almost came up with a huge upset against an undefeated Gibbstown team this past weekend. Gibbstown ended up edging out the Eagles 12-8, but West Deptford put a major scare into them. The Eagles, at 1-7, will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against Gloucester Township.

Check back with West Deptford Patch early next week to find out how the Eagles' fare in the final week of the regular season and when they'll kick off the playoffs.
