Eagles Continue to Make Playoff Noise

Find out how the West Deptford teams are faring in their NJSIAA championship quests.

Boys Lacrosse

West Deptford got past Delaware Valley in the opening round of the NJSIAA Group I playoffs behind a strong effort from Michael Reardon, the Star-Ledger reports. The attackman potted 6 goals and helped on three others in the 13-10 victory.

Reardon, who returned only a few weeks ago from a shoulder injury that had sidelined him for the bulk of the year, is making the most of his shortened season, having notched his 100th career goal back in April.

The next test for the Eagles will come Thursday, when they take on the Rumson Dawgs in the semifinal round.

Girls Lacrosse

Top gun Rachel Krott had a hat trick, Paige Paratore threw in two more goals, and Christina Petito and Madelyn Waschko also found the back of the net for West Deptford in a 7-4 victory over Manasquan in the NJSIAA quarterfinal round on Tuesday.

Their reward for the victory is the privilege of taking on top-ranked Allentown, N.J. in Thursday's semifinals—and they're going to need lots of offense to dethrone the Redbirds, which have scored 22 goals in each of their first two contests of the tournament. Click here for the full bracket.

Baseball

The Eagles' opening-round playoff victory against Overbrook was authored by Harry Sturgis, who held his opponents to just one run through seven, and then walked off with a three-run bomb to break the 1-1 stalemate. Isaiah Easterling drove in the other run in his only hit on the day, the South Jersey Times reports.

West Deptford will host No. 5 Woodstown for the quarterfinal round Friday.

Softball

The Eagles softballers blew up Atlantic Tech in the opening round of the Group 2 playoffs behind five shutout innings from Marissa Linquist, who fanned 9 and helped her own cause with a longball. Her teammate Sydney Ponto also went yard, and Summer Wenzel, Ciarra Girouard and Kim Alexander doubled in the romp.

West Deptford will travel to take on its local rivals from Deptford in Thursday's quarterfinal round.

Girls Track and Field

The West Deptford girls track and field team demonstrated their all-around skill at Sunday's Carl Lewis Relays in Willingboro, and walked away with their heads high, coach Mark Drummond told Patch.

The 4x1600 meter relay team of Millie Kipp, Rebecca Charboneau, Karen Knoblock and Megan Knoblock placed first overall.

Pole vaulter Claudia Theriault matched her school record of 10 feet 6 inchess to win the event, with Liz Douglas jumping a new personal best of 10 feet to tie for 2nd place. The girls will try to parlay those performances into success at their next competition this weekend: the South Jersey Group 2 Championship meet.
