Five Things About the Group II Baseball Semis

West Deptford faces off against Governor Livingston for a shot at the state finals.

1. This is new territory for the Eagles. Their South Jersey championship victory over Haddonfield was the first West Deptford High School history, and now they’ll have a shot at reaching their first-ever state final with a win today.

2. Governor Livingston, their opponent this afternoon, has also been out of it for awhile, but did win a sectional title five years ago, and set a team record for victories (24) this season.

3. The game may come down to an unstoppable force–Governor Livingston’s bats, which produced 15 runs in their sectional final–against an immovable object–Eagles ace Tony Urban, who’s been nearly unhittable in the playoffs.

4. Don’t look past Jake. Lefty slugger Tom Jakubowski has been a force at the plate, batting over .500, and notched the game-winning double against Haddonfield. We won't be surprised if he draws an intentional walk or two today.

5. The game starts at 4 p.m. at Monmouth University. If you need directions:
