Freshmen Eagles Open TCMFL Season With Big Win Over Penns Grove

The youngest Eagles squad posts a shutout in the opener.

The West Deptford freshmen Eagles opened their season in a huge way, smashing Penns Grove, 37-0, in a Tri-County Midget Football League game Sunday.

Eagles running back Lawrence Howard broke loose on touchdown runs of 55 and 37 yards and racked up 122 yards on the day to lead the team.

Also contributing big on offense were Jamar Wallace, who scored on runs of 27 and 11 yards, Jabril Barksdale, who torched Penns Grove with a 42-yard touchdown and Ryan Champion, who scored from 23 yards out.

On defense, Jordyn Roane, Trevor Lundfelt, Dan Marraffa, Damian Waiters and Dominick Walton combined for 22 tackles to help shut down Penns Grove.

Saleem Washington, who also scored an extra point, and Walton each recorded a fumble recovery, as well.

While the freshmen were dominant, things were more difficult for the older Eagles squads. The seniors came closest, losing to Penns Grove, 19-13, while the sophomores fell, 21-12, and the juniors lost, 32-12.
