No Shortage of Pink as Lady Eagles Gear Up for Play 4Kay

Hosting the game for the second year in row, the West Deptford girls basketball team's special game raises money for breast cancer research.

Greens and whites are getting sidelined, as the Lady Eagles trade in their school colors for pink Feb. 16.

After a successful outing last year, the West Deptford girls basketball team will once again host the Kay Yow Foundation Breast Cancer Game. The Eagles will square off against Kingsway High School at the West Deptford High School at 11:30 a.m.

Expect a repeat performance on Saturday. Like last year, all proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund—a nonprofit organization aimed at providing funding for research and assistance to those with breast cancer.

Admission to the game is $3 for adults and $2 for children and seniors. In addition, concessions, pink ribbons and pink socks will be available for purchase, with proceeds also going directly to the organization.

With no shortage of pink in the gym, the teams will also be donning some rosy duds for the cause. Kingsway will wear all-pink jerseys, and the West Deptford girls will sport pink warmup shirts, laces and socks.

This special game is part an initiative started by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund called Play 4Kay. Kay Yow—the organization’s namesake—fought a public battle with breast cancer while serving as the head coach for North Carolina State University women's basketball team. After first being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, Yow died in 2009 while fighting the disease for the third time.
