Owens Nominated to 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl

The West Deptford running back will have to wait until the fall to see if he makes the final cut.

Put another highlight on Gerald Owens' resume.

The West Deptford High School junior running back/linebacker was one of 400 players—and one of just two from South Jersey—nominated for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, considered the top high school all-star game in the country.

Owens, a 6-1, 245-pound bruiser rated a four-star back by both Scout.com and 247Sports.com, has been nominated in the catch-all athlete position for the All-American Bowl.

Over the past two seasons, he's run for a combined 3,264 yards and scored 54 touchdowns; led the Eagles to their second straight Group 2 championship in a 42-28 win over Cedar Creek at Rowan University in December.

Colleges haven't failed to notice, either—Owens has offers from Rutgers, Temple, Florida State, Michigan State, Boston College, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Illinois so far.

Ninety players will make the cut when final selections for the All-American Bowl take place this fall, with the all-star game set for Jan. 4, 2014, in the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.

Owens wouldn't be the first West Deptford student to get to the game—last year, color guard member Caitlin Fenning was selected for the bowl's marching band.
