Viewfinder: Thanksgiving Weekend Soccer Tournament

West Deptford soccer teams make it far in the annual tournament.

Wrapping its 32nd year, the West Deptford Thanksgiving Tournament brought township soccer teams from all over New Jersey to participate, as well as squads from neighboring states Pennslyvannia, Delaware and New York for the three-day event. Championship games finished on Sunday at West Deptford Park, and with no shortage of green and white out on the field.

West Deptford girls' U-14 team, Storm, took second place. After beating out the Hamilton Wildcats, the Atlantic United Armor and the Palmyra Riverton Storm, the Storm went on to Mantua Township. Mantua went on to take the title after winning, 1-0, against West Deptford.

The same was true for both West Deptford U-14 and U-13. After winning two out of three matches, the U-13 Wizards went on to play Vineland. After remaining neck-and-neck with Vineland the Wizards ended up losing, 2-1, in overtime.

The U-14 Hurricanes had no problem beating Vineland, along with Central Jersey and Hainesport, and went on to play in the championship game against the Cape Express Tsunami. The Tsunami were able to score four unanswered points and take first place.
