WD Field Hockey Shuts Out Paulsboro

The Eagles dominated the Red Raiders' half of the field, delivering an 8-0 win.

Brisk temperatures and a stifling wind chill could not slow down the girls of the West Deptford field hockey team, who came out strong on Paulsboro’s field and dominated the Red Raiders for almost the entirety of the game, Friday night.

The Eagles shut the Raiders out, scoring eight unanswered goals.

Rachel Krott scored three goals in the first half, with two at the very beginning of the half and one to close it out. Sydney Ponto, also proved to be a playmaker, scoring two goals in the first half. Amanda Hojnowski also walked away with a goal in the first half.

While the Raiders were able to cross over onto the Eagles territory a little more in the second half, goalie Dahlia VanDorick was able to keep the net safe and render all attempts at a Raider goal futile. Brooke Brown and Tori Palese each scored a goal in the second half, to seal an Eagles win.

“I think they played very well,” said field hockey coach Linda Decker. “We got a lot of players out there today.”

Decker says there are still minor improvements to be made, but is very happy with her team. She especially recognizes the defense who she believes has made major improvements this season.
