WD Football Closing In on Top Playoff Seed in New Power Points

The Eagles will most likely be the top seed in the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs with wins in their last two regular season games.

With just two regular season games left before the playoff cutoff date, West Deptford football has the inside track to the No. 1 seed.

After another blowout win this past weekend, this time against Overbrook, West Deptford maintained its lead atop the power point standings in South Jersey Group 2. Their lead over Cedar Creek is now 11 points. West Deptford's final two games are at home against Collingswood on Friday and at Haddonfield next week. Cedar Creek's final two games are against Group 5 school Vineland and Lower Cape May.

Lower in the standings, Haddon Heights' 32-10 victory over Haddon Township bumped them up to fourth in the standings with 61 points.

Meanwhile, Sterling and Haddonfield may have caught a break further down in the standings. The two teams currently sit on the bubble in seventh and eighth, respectively. However, despite being in fifth place in the standings, Buena High School may not be eligible for the postseason. NJSIAA rules require teams to have a .500 record after their first eight games to be eligible for the playoffs. Buena currently sits at 3-4 on the year. A loss to Pleasantville this weekend would eliminate Buena from playoff consideration.

There's still no guarantee for Sterling or Haddonfield to make the playoffs, however. Middle Township and Willingboro, both at .500, are nipping on their heels just a few points back.
