WD Midget Football Prepares for Start of Playoffs

The freshmen, sophomore and junior Eagles will kick off the quarterfinals this week after received first-round byes last weekend.

It's back to business this week for West Deptford's freshmen, sophomore and junior midget football teams, as they will kick off their playoff runs this weekend in the TCMFL quarterfinals. All three teams received first-round byes for winning their divisions and have a chance to contend for their respective league titles.

The sophomore team is the big favorite this year as they enter the TCMFL playoffs as the No. 1 seed after an 8-1 regular season. The Eagles host No. 11 Clearview in their playoff opener at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Clearview won in last weekend's wild card round by upsetting No. 6 Rancocas Valley 13-6.

The freshmen team is the No. 4 seed in their bracket after finishing the regular season at 7-2. They will host Cumberland in their quarterfinal game on Saturday at 1 p.m. Cumberland was only a No. 11 seed despite winning the league's Patriot Division with a 5-4 record. They advanced over the weekend by defeating No. 11 Clearview 13-6 at home.

The junior Eagles, meanwhile, will face a familiar foe this weekend as they will cap off Saturday's tripleheader by hosting Kingsway at 5 p.m. Even though the bracket has West Deptford seeded No. 4 and the Dragons No. 7, Kingsway actually finished the regular season with a better record of 8-1 against the Eagles' 7-2 mark. . The Dragons are coming off a blowout 42-12 win over Pennsville in the wild card round.

All three games will be held at the Eagles' home field at RiverWinds. For more information on the schedule or other games, check out the TCMFL website.
