West Deptford Boys' Basketball Team Improves to 4-0

The wrestling team advanced three to the finals at the Arthur O. Marinelli tournament.

The West Deptford High School boys basketball team improved to 4-0 with wins over Woodrow Wilson and West Windsor-Plainsboro South last week.

Preston Harcum produced 22 points in the Eagles’ 86-67 win over Woodrow Wilson on Friday, according to nj.com.

He led four players in double digits, along with Justin Hansen (18), Luke McKeown (16) and Tyler Leonhardt (14). McKeown and Leonhardt each had two three-pointers.

The Eagles went to overtime before finally overcoming West Windsor-Plainsboro South, 72-68, according to nj.com.

West Deptford jumped out to a 50-31 halftime lead, but West Windsor was able to limit the Eagles to just nine points in the third and fourth quarters as regulation ended in a 59-59 tie.

The Eagles outscored their opposition, 13-9, in overtime. Hansen led the way with  17 points. Harcum had 16 and Marquise Owens had 14.

Girls basketball

West Deptford bounced back from a loss to Gloucester Catholic with a 58-37 win over Camden on Friday, according to nj.com.

Points were scattered throughout the Eagles’ lineup in the win over Camden, with Gabby Minnite posting 12, and Ivory Ajamu and Dai’jah Diggs each posting nine. Kelsey Brown, Samantha Budd and Tina Furfari each posted eight in the win.

One day earlier, Gloucester Catholic defeated West Deptford, 61-34, according to nj.com. Furfari led the Eagles in that game with 14 points.

Wrestling

Three West Deptford wrestlers advanced to the finals in their weight classes at the Arthur O. Marinelli tournament, but none were able to take home the ultimate prize, according to nj.com.

Dustin Zuzulock advanced to the finals at 106, but fell to Clearview’s John Seybold, 3-1.

Griffin Bonner dropped a 4-2 decision to Woodbridge’s Bobby Jordan at 113.

Mark Fischer fell short in his quest for the 220-pound title when he was pinned by Absegami’s Chris Henchy in four minutes, 32 seconds.

As a team, West Deptford finished fifth in the 14-team field with 98.5 points. Clearview won the title with 194.5 points.
