West Deptford Boys Soccer Plays for South Jersey Title [Photos]

The Eagles hosted Middle Township in the championship.

A year after going on the road and claiming the team's first South Jersey title in 13 years via penalty kicks, the West Deptford boys soccer team found itself experiencing deja vu against Middle Township.

After a scoreless regulation and overtime, it was down to one-on-one for the South Jersey, Group 2 championship.

This time, the Eagles would not be so fortunate.

Middle Township's Tanner Kerr made three saves and Noah Granigan buried the game-winner just beyond the fingertips of West Deptford keeper Perry Corsetti to take the title, 6-5, on penalties.

Kerr and Corsetti—who tallied 17 saves between them during the game—turned the championship match into something of a keeper's duel, breaking up breakaways and snuffing out corners, as neither team managed to crack through on offense.

That carried through into PKs, where the teams had to to go to eight players to decide the match.

It was the second time in three years Middle eliminated West Deptford via penalties—the Panthers won at home in 2011 in the semifinals.
