West Deptford's Clyde Folsom 2nd in USA Today Coach of the Year Voting

Folsom collected nearly 17,000 votes, but finished as a runner-up to Dan Higgins of Piscataway.

West Deptford High School football coach Clyde Folsom finished second in voting for USA Today's New Jersey High School Football Coach of the Year.

Folsom collected 16,995 votes to finish second to Piscataway's Dan Higgins, who won with 29,047 votes.

Tony Karcich, of St. Joseph (Montvale) was third with 5,203 votes.

Folsom was one of eight coaches in contention for the state title, and 408 in contention for USA Today’s inaugural National Coach of the Year honor.

Higgins advances to the regional round, where voting takes place through Oct. 18. The eight regional winners advance to the national finals, and USA Today’s first National High School Football Coach of the Year will be selected on Oct. 29.

Winners in each round are decided by most votes.

Folsom led the Eagles to South Jersey Group 2 championships in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2011 and 2012.

West Deptford is 3-0 this season, and takes its 22-game winning streak into Collingswood Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
