West Deptford Football Falls in Playoff Opener

Haddonfield avenged a regular season loss at the hands of the Eagles.

The West Deptford High School football team lost for the first time this season Friday night. With that loss, the Eagles’ hopes for winning a championship disappeared.

The Haddonfield High School football team avenged an earlier loss by eliminating previously undefeated West Deptford from the playoffs Friday night,  according to nj.com.

The fifth-seeded Bulldawgs upset the No. 4 Eagles, 21-9, in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 playoffs Friday night.

Haddonfield will face the winner of Saturday’s game between top-seeded Camden and No. 8 Cedar Creek in the semifinals next weekend.

Earlier this season, West Deptford (8-1) defeated Haddonfield (7-2), 31-14.

History would not repeat itself Friday night as Haddonfield took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never let up.

Ted Stavetski opened the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run. Jacob Robinson also scored in the first quarter, reeling in a 31-yard pass from Mike McLaughlin.

Mike DeFeo rounded out the scoring in the fourth, on a 3-yard run.

Isaiah Worthy put West Deptford on the board in the second quarter with a 7-yard run. The Eagles added two points in the third quarter when they blocked a punt. A Bulldawg recovered the ball, but was tackled in his own end zone by West Deptford’s Jake Clayton.

West Deptford has one game remaining this season Nov. 30 at Paulsboro (6-0).
