West Deptford Girls' Tennis Team Advances in Playoffs

Additionally, the boys' soccer team remained undefeated with three wins this week.

The seventh-seeded West Deptford High School tennis team slipped by No. 10 Deptford, 4-1, in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 playoffs, according to stats posted on nj.com.

Gillian Purvenas defeated Lauren Douglas at first singles, 6-3, 6-1. At second singles, Annalise Kipp downed Taylor Douglas, 6-2, 6-1. Third singles Danielle Melvin vanquished Caitlin Douglas, 6-2, 6-0.

The first doubles team of Katelyn Emick and Mia Forbes picked up a win over Ina San Buenaventura and Tiffany Tran, 6-1, 6-2.

West Deptford travels to No. 2 Middle Township on Tuesday.

Boys' soccer

West Deptford 1, Collingswood 0: The Eagles improved to 11-0, but the Panthers didn’t make it easy.

RJ Eckley finally solved Collingswood keeper Mike Campbell with an unassisted goal in the second half. Campbell made 13 saves in a losing effort. West Deptford goalie Perry Corsetti made one stop.

Collingswood dropped to 4-7. 

West Deptford 2, Haddon Heights 0: Cole Van Dorick and RJ Eckley each scored for the Eagles. Keeper Perry Corsetti made eight saves. Kevin Keane had an assist. Haddon Heights goalkeeper Dan Pender stopped 12 shots.

West Deptford 8, Audubon 0: Cole Van Dorick led the way with two goals and an assist as seven different Eagles scored. Kevin Keane had a goal and two assists and Zach Peterson and Ryan Kappre each had a goal and an assist.

Griffin Crowley, Kevin Gill and Luke McKeown also found the back of the net in the win. RJ Eckley had an assist. Goalie Perry Corsetti made four saves to pickup the shutout win.

Girls' soccer

West Deptford 7, Collingswood 0: Tina Furfari led the way with three goals as the Eagles posted five goals in the first half.

Gabby Sileo had a goal and an assist to lead the Eagles (9-1). Mel Bartley and Payton McGinnis also scored, and Sam Budd, Liz Fenton, Carly Kiley, Kelly Meagher, Madison Moreno and Nicole Pinto had assists.

Goalie Jessica Waters made 18 saves for Collingswood (2-7). 

West Deptford 1, Haddon Heights 0: Paige Paratore scored the lone goal for the Eagles in the first half, with an assist from Tina Furfari. Haddon Heights goalie Morgan Driver made five saves.

West Deptford 4, Audubon 1: Sam Budd hit the back of the net twice in the win. Paige Paratore had a goal and an assist, and Rita Prinz had a goal. Liz Fenton, Tina Furfari and Makenna Moreno all assisted on tallies. Keeper Maggie Davis stopped four shots.
