West Deptford High School Boys' Basketball Team Off to 2-0 Start

The Eagles opened the season with wins over Haddon Heights and GCIT. The girls' team dropped their season opener and the wrestling team placed two wrestlers in Caldwell tournament finals.

The West Deptford High School boys’ basketball team is off to a 2-0 start this season with wins over Haddon Heights and GCIT over the weekend.

After a 63-49 win at Haddon Heights in the season opener Friday night, the Eagles downed GCIT, 84-42, in their home opener on Saturday, according to box scores posted on nj.com.

Preston Harcum led the way with 18 points, followed by Marquise Owens with 17. Mike Gardner and Luke McKeown also reached double digits with 11 points apiece.

West Deptford jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter and held a 37-21 lead at the half.

West Deptford returns to the court Jan. 4 at Collingswood.

Girls’ basketball

Haddon Heights 49, West Deptford 42: The Eagles couldn’t overcome an early deficit, despite outscoring Haddon Heights, 18-14, in the fourth quarter.

Samantha Budd led the way for the Eagles with 11 points, followed by Gabby Minnite with 10.

Haddon Heights’ Nadja Riggs had a game-high 22 points.

West Deptford 28, Collingswood 17: The Eagles bounced back from their opening night loss to defeat the Panthers.

Gabby Minnite led the way for West Deptford with 14 points, followed by Samantha Budd with eight.

Morgan McConnell was Collingswood's leading scorer with 6 points, followed by Lauren Glaze with 3.

Wrestling

The wrestling team placed two wrestlers in the final round of the Caldwell tournament on Saturday, according to nj.com.

Griffin Bonner advanced to the 113 pound final, where he fell to Caldwell’s Dean Caravela, 9-1.

At 160, Chris Soto advanced to the final, falling to Randolph’s Alex Wolmart in a tight 8-7 decision.

West Deptford finished seventh as a team with 100 points.
