West Deptford Legion Baseball Beats Cherry Hill [Photos]

It was a pitcher's duel in the semifinals.

West Deptford's Chris Guinta was almost unhittable Wednesday night.

Facing a Cherry Hill team that had exploded for six runs in the first inning of its opening-round game, Guinta scattered three hits and shut out the visitors as host West Deptford moved into the District 4 Senior American Legion championship game with a 3-0 win.

On an evening where neither team could muster much offense—there were only nine hits all game—West Deptford got back-to-back singles to open the fourth inning, then cracked the game open, getting a double from McCabe Reim that plated Troy Sieber and Nick DeFrank, and following it with David Strout's RBI single that drove in Tyler Maher.

It was all on Guinta after that, and the pitcher responded, putting Cherry Hill batters down in order in four different innings and not allowing an extra-base hit all night.

Cherry Hill's Alex Dimpter was nearly as good, allowing just six hits and striking out five, and could've used some more defensive help, as Cherry Hill committed three errors in the field.

Alex Kramer and Will Allen had back-to-back singles for Post 372 in the second, but that was as close as Cherry Hill came to scoring.

West Deptford moves on to play Bordentown in the championship Thursday night, while Cherry Hill will face Hamilton in an elimination bracket game at 1 p.m.
