West Deptford Track Turns in Solid Performance at States

No individual athletes manage a state title Saturday at South Plainfield, but several place.

On a day when no individual championships fell to the Eagles, several West Deptford High School athletes scored top-10 finishes in the Group II track and field championships at South Plainfield Saturday.

Junior Megan Kirschling led the way with a ninth place in the triple jump and a seventh place in the 100 hurdles to go with her state title in the high jump from Friday.

Ferrell Cooper was fifth in the 110 hurdles, while Robbie Fearon added a ninth in the 200 meters. Cooper also finished 13th in the long jump.

Junior Samantha Budd ran just under her qualifying time in the 800, good for a 17th-place finish.

The girls' team finished in a tie for 18th overall in Group II, while the boys finished tied for 29th.
