Wrestling Moves Up to Fourth in Power Points

A string of five consecutive wins in just over a week for West Deptford wrestling has vaulted them into fourth place in the South Jersey Group 2 power points standings with the regular season winding down.

The Eagles increased their power points to 25.33 and vaulted over Barnegat, Middle Township and conference-rival Gateway/Woodbury to climb into fourth in the standings. This puts them in position to reach the team playoffs if the season were to end today. The top six teams in each group qualify for the team playoffs.

Above the Eagles, the top three did not change. Despite suffering the first losses of the season, Delsea remained comfortably in first place. Clayton/Glassboro continues to hold off Highland for the second spot in the standings, a critical position as the top two seeds in each group receive a first-round bye.

The cutoff for the team tournament is on Saturday, Feb. 2, leaving West Deptford with just a hand full of matches left to improve their position within Group 2. If they qualify, the sectional quarterfinals are set to take place on Monday, Feb. 4.
