RiverWinds Accepting Applications for Summer Interns

RiverWinds Community Center seeks applicants for fitness and recreation management/communications internships.

Though the plummeting temperatures and incessant snowfall may suggest the opposite, summertime is soon approaching—prompting college students and recent graduates to search far and wide for internship opportunities.

Anyone in the area doesn't have to search too far as RiverWinds Community Center is currently taking applications for a summer internship program

With internships in the fall and spring as well, RiverWinds is offering an eleven-week unpaid internship for both fitness and recreation management/communications interns.

Tailored for athletic training, physical education and fitness management majors, the fitness intern will assist learn personal training criterion, as well as lead group exercises and complete fitness orientations for new members. The fitness intern will also learn how to develop programs, such as the 5K Run/ Walk, 4-Week Incentive Program, 6-Week Fitness Beginner’s Program and Fitness Workshop.

Recommended for public relations, communications and marketing majors, the recreation management/communications intern will assist in completing various publications, employing press releases for marketing purposes and promoting via social media. Certification in CPR/AED is recommended for the recreation management/communication internship, but is not required.

In addition, a pool operator’s license, personal training certificate, fitness instructor certificate and CPR/AED or first aid certificate is recommended for the fitness intern, but also not required.

All applications must be postmarked by April 1, as the position will be offered by April 15.

Interns can earn college credit, depending on university and college specifications. While the internship is unpaid, interns will have free access to all of the community center’s facilities during their time at RiverWinds.

Selecting the two most qualified interns, applicants are required to have a GPA of 2.5 or better in order to be considered. Candidates for both positions must possess strong oral and written communication skills. In addition, RiverWinds is seeking candidates who are highly motivated, creative and innovative, with strong interpersonal skills.  

Prospective interns must be willing to work nights and weekends.
