“Becoming a Serv-A-Tray driver would be a wonderful holiday gift to give back to the community or New Year’s resolution for people to make this year,” Freeholder Director Robert Damminger said. “Volunteers are the heart of this program and the county could not operate Serv-A-Tray without them.”

About 75 drivers currently serve the program, with each delivering about 20 meals per day. The county’s seeking long-term volunteers to deliver meals throughout the year; drivers are reimbursed for their mileage.

“We don’t want the price of gas to keep people from volunteering to help serve meals,” Damminger said.

Deputy Freeholder Director Warren Wallace said the experience is a rewarding one.

“Sometimes the Serv-A-Tray volunteer is the only human contact the recipients will get in a day,” Wallace said. “It is a vital service and that is provided, both physically and spiritually.”
