Fall Arts Festival Heads up the Week in West Deptford

The two-day weekend event will bring families from throughout the region to downtown Woodbury, and culminates in a starlight concert with 10,000 Maniacs.

On Monday, September 23, learn the ins and outs of government contract pitching with a small business seminar at the West Deptford Free Public Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan Mirijanian from the NJIT Procurement & Technical 
Assistance Center will guide you through the process. Refreshments will be served.

At 7 p.m., it's the monthly meeting of the West Deptford Board of Education at the middle school. Click here to preview the agenda.

On Tuesday, September 24, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Gloucester County cuts the ribbon on its new center in Woodbury, which joins two others in Paulsboro and Glassboro. The event kicks off at 5 p.m.; stop by and check it out.

At 7 p.m., the West Deptford planning board will meet in the municipal building. The group will be discussing a number of issues, including an amendment to the local zoning ordinance regarding signage. 

On Wednesday, September 25, the Woodbury Public Library will host a workshop for authors on different approaches to writing, getting published, and the various options available to writers in today's market." Speakers include Kristin Battestella, Laura Kaighn, Jennifer Eaton, and Lee Ireland. The event is tree, open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

Thursday, September 26 brings with it a public presentation on the role that Gloucester County played in the Revolutionary War in 1777. Members of the  Gloucester County Historical Society will also discuss recent archaeological findings from the period. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Then, from 7 to 9 p.m., it's back to school night at the West Deptford High School. 

On Friday, September 27visit the RiverWinds Community Center for a make-and-take jewelry workshop. Bring home a pair of earrings, bracelet, or key ring using beads and stones. The event runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and costs $30 for members ($36 for non-members).

Need to get out of town this weekend? Saturday, September 28 to Sunday, September 29, it's the annual City to Shore Ride for multiple sclerosis. Riders can take on a tailored course ranging from 25-175 miles over the two-day event. Registration and details for the event here.

if you're staying in town, the can't-miss event of the weekend is the Woodbury Fall Arts Festival. For two days, artists, crafters and musicians will line the downtown area, performing, showing their work, and meeting the public.

There's an acoustic music lounge, a fine art gallery, gourmet foods and wine and cheese tastings, kids' activities, a craft beer tasting, chili cook-off, cake wars and art battles!

To top it off, the Saturday evening starlight concert event will feature a headline performance from 10,000 Maniacs. The concert is free, but for those who want to get closer to the action, there's a center-stage VIP section for which fundraiser tickets are available.
