Wawa Anniversary, Chicken BBQ, History Lesson Top Events in West Deptford

On Monday, October 7, the Wawa on North Evergreen Ave. and Red Bank Ave. in Woodbury is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The company is hosting a family-reunion-style, in-store party to thank generations of its customers, and will provide free coffee all day long.

The event also includes a $60,000 donation to Special Olympics, all raised through in-store donations by customers and employees from July through August.

This week represents your last chance to buy tickets for Sunday's chicken barbecue at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Thorofare. The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 13.

For $10, you can get a half-chicken with cole slaw, baked beans, corn, a buttered roll and dessert. Eat in or take out. Buy your tickets in advance and save $1. Call Judy (856) 905-3039 or Chuck (856) 423-0272.

On Tuesday, October 8, stop by the West Deptford Free Public Library at 1 p.m. to meet Brian Duffy, DPT, Director of Rehabilitation from Kennedy University Hospital.

Duffy will discuss "how to keep your balance during rehabilitation and the golden years and how to manage risk factors, prevention and proper use of assistive devices like canes."

On Wednesday, October 9, come by the RiverWinds Community Center at 6 p.m. for the duck races. The event is free for all members. Bring your own duck or race one provided for you.

Then, at 7 p.m., join the West Deptford Junior Women’s Club at the library for the monthly business meeting of the group.

Women 18 and older are "enthusiastically encouraged to stop in and see what the club is all about, as we are looking for a few good ladies to spearhead some incredible projects helping residents of West Deptford Township and beyond."

On Thursday, October 10, the library hosts its two-part public history lecture on The Battle of Red Bank.

Jennifer Janofsky, Curator of the Whitall House and Red Bank Battlefield joins Megan Giordano of Rowan University to talk about how the battle "influenced the course of the Revolution and the role that African-American soldiers played at Fort Mercer."

Refreshments provided by the friends of the West Deptford Public Library. Registration requested.

On Friday, October 11, students at the Oakview Elementary School will have their K.I.S.S. book fair sale event. Each student has the opportunity to invite one special family member to come and shop for books with them at 11:30 a.m.
