West Deptford Goes to Trenton This Week

Plus: a township committee meeting, ice cream social, and how you can help with an Eagle Scout project at RiverGate Park.

At 6 p.m. on Monday, August 12, young runners can continue to keep those legs moving in the right direction at West Deptford Park on Metropolitan Ave. For a $4 entry fee—which is waived for Gloucester County Running Club Members—kids can compete in a cross-crountry race and sharpen their skills.

Then on Wednesday, August 14, West Deptford will learn whether its government will become subject to financial oversight from the New Jersey Department of Local Government Services as a result of the significant debt load in its 2013 budget. A public hearing will be heard at 101 S. Broad Street in Trenton at 10:30 a.m.

Whatever the outcome, everyone can come home and have ice cream at the RiverWinds Community Center family ice cream social (low-fat yogurt will also be available for the health-conscious). It's $5 for members, and $7 for non-members.

Thursday, August 15, brings with it the next West Deptford township committee meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. at the West Deptford municipal building on Crown Point Rd.

The agenda has not yet been made available, but at least one item is guaranteed: a public commemoration of retiring West Deptford Police Chief Craig Mangano.

There's also a pottery and clay hand-building workshop at RiverWinds that evening for the non-politically minded.

Friday, August 16, is parents' night out at RiverWinds (members only). Want to drop off your little ones (aged 3 to 11) for an evening of child care? It's $16 for the first kid and $6 for each sibling. Sign up 48 hours in advance.

Starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 17you can help Eagle Scout candidate T.J. Purvenas with his project, cleaning up RiverGate Park. Members of Troop 295 will be providing supplies and refreshments for all who attend.

As always, if you want your event to be seen in our Week Ahead or Today in West Deptford calendar roundups, post stuff to our events calendar. It also ensures that your promotional efforts get into our e-mail blasts.
