10 Arrested on Drug Charges in 2 Weeks

West Deptford Police make the arrests for heroin possession, drug needles and other related charges.

West Deptford police have made a number of drug-related arrests in the township during the past two weeks, 10 of which have been for possession of opiates, like heroin, or for drug paraphernalia, such as hypodermic needles. All were issued summonses and released pending court dates. According to the 2011 Substance Abuse Overview published by the New Jersey Department of Human Services, heroin and opiate abuse accounted for 42 percent of admissions to the New Jersey Substance Abuse Monitoring System (NJ-SAMS) Substance Abuse Treatment, and the majority of Gloucester County residents (1,522) admitted to the program—nearly double the number of cocaine users. West Deptford P.D. Rolls Out 'Click It or Ticket' Program

Motorists can expect enhanced enforcement through June 2.

From May 20 through June 2, you'll want to make sure you're buckled up if you're driving through the township. That's good advice every day of the year, but it's especially pertinent for the next two weeks, as West Deptford police up their enforcement of seat belt laws during the statewide Click It or Ticket campaigns. Want a refresher on the finer points of New Jersey seat belt laws?  According to a statement from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, the front seat belt usage rate in New Jersey declined for the first time in 15 years, to 88 percent. Uzi-Wielding Bank Robber Sentenced

Warren Christopher Davis learned his fate Monday for holding up a Deptford bank in 2011 with a Uzi-style weapon, terrorizing employees in the process.

A Paulsboro man who brandished an Uzi when he robbed a Deptford bank will spend the next 13 years in prison. Warren Christopher Davis, 32, of the 200 block of West Broad Street, Paulsboro, admitted in Feburary to holding up The Bank in Deptford on May 9, 2011. He was sentenced Monday. Davis’s robbery—carried out with accused accomplice Dwayne Tribbett, who was later shot and killed by police in a separate incident—unfolded much like a Hollywood drama. The pair wore masks and Davis brandished an Uzi-style submachine gun and ordered everyone to the floor during the robbery. The men stole $10,000 in the holdup, and then went to the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Philadelphia, where they stayed two nights, but skipped out on the tab. Davis was on the …

West Deptford Police Praised for Work in Bank Robbery

For their swift handling of the March 20 robbery of the West Deptford Bank of America, West Deptford detectives were cited by the township committee at its May 16 meeting. Det. Sgt. Michael Cramer, Investigator John Craig, Investigator Jason Sherman and Investigator Jeffrey Pallies were all awarded with certificates of commendable performance for their thorough investigation and quick arrest of suspect Michael J. Rowan—which happened within a 26-hour period. Break-in Discovered at West Deptford Solar Farm

Police have not determined a motive in the incident.

An unexplained hole in the fence of a West Deptford solar farm is no immediate cause for concern, say police—although they don't have any leads on who did it or why. At 9:56 a.m. on May 9, West Deptford police received a call from an employee of NextEra Energy Resources to report a damaged fence at its Crown Point Rd. location. The employee told police that when he arrived at the site that morning, he'd noticed a 3-feet-by-3-feet hole had been cut in a section of the 8-foot chain link fence that surrounds the property near Paradise Rd. Police say that according to the witness, the incident seemed to have occurred within the past two weeks. Nothing appeared to have been damaged or taken from the site, and other NextEra sites in the area …

Paulsboro Man Wanted in Gloucester County on Warrant

Leroy Dorsey failed to appear in state Superior Court in Woodbury, authorities said.

Leroy Dorsey, 35, of Paulsboro, is wanted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office on a warrant.  He failed to appear in Superior Court in Woodbury on May 9, 2013, for a pre-arraignment interview on a charge of theft by deception, authorities said.  Dorsey is  5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair. He has tattoo Chinese writing tattooed on his right arm and "Melaney" tattooed on the left side of his neck. Dorsey's last known address is 421 Thompson Ave., Apt. A, Paulsboro.   On Dec. 15, 2012, an East Greenwich police officer was dispatched to Iron Butterfly, an antiques and collectibles business on Swedesboro Avenue for a report of stolen checks. UPDATE: 2 in Critical Condition After Crash in Logan Twp.

Seven people were injured. Investigators suspect the driver, Tyler Burlingame, 21, of Paulsboro, may have had too much to drink.

Seven young people were injured in a single-vehicle crash in Logan Twp. Thursday, when police say the soft-top Jeep Wrangler in which they were traveling overturned on Floodgate Rd. Acording to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, alcohol consumption by the driver, 21-year-old Tyler Burlingame of Paulsboro, may have played a role in the accident. The crash remains under criminal investigation. Burlingame's Jeep "turned sharply on the road at a location between the Bridgeport Raceway and the Delaware River," according to a statement from the prosecutor's office. Neither the driver's destination nor his point of origin was known to investigators. The crash was reported at 1:11 a.m. At least two of the passengers were "seriously …
