The nation’s most gluttonous competitive eaters will gorge for victory Friday at Philadelphia’s Wing Bowl, but one of the competition’s past stars is fighting a very different battle—cocaine charges. William T. “El Wingador” Simmons was indicted by a Gloucester County grand jury this week on 13 charges stemming from accusations that the five-time Wing Bowl champ had a hefty amount of cocaine on him during a June arrest. Simmons was indicted on: New Jersey State Police reportedly caught Simmons with $8,000 worth of powdered cocaine and more than $4,000 in cash in his 2010 Kia Soul when detectives stopped him on June 15, 2012, in Harrison Township. Facing first-degree cocaine distribution charges and a six-figure bail, Bill “El Wingador” Simmons has filed for a bail reduction hearing and will appear in Superior Court Friday, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said. Simmons, a 50-year-old Woodbury Heights resident best known for his five Wing Bowl titles, has been in the Gloucester County jail on default of $100,000 cash bail since last week, after state troopers arrested him during a car stop in Harrison Township. It was there state police said Simmons had $8,000 worth of cocaine and more than $4,000 in cash on him. Search warrants were executed at two homes connected to Simmons at the same time, police said. Five-time Wing Bowl champion and Woodbury Heights native Bill “El Wingador” Simmons has been arrested on cocaine distribution charges, New Jersey State Police Lt. Stephen Jones announced Tuesday. Simmons was caught with $8,000 worth of powdered cocaine and more than $4,000 in cash in his 2010 Kia Soul when State Police detectives stopped him Friday evening, June 15, in Harrison Township, Jones said.
