Hess May Sell Their Gas Stations, But Signature Toy Trucks Will Remain

Aficiandos of Hess toy trucks can rest assured that Christmas sales of their toy trucks will continue at the corporation's convenience stores.

Recent headlines announcing Hess Corporation's exit from the energy marketing and refining end of its global business will not affect what is perhaps its second-most-coveted consumer item after the petrol: the Hess Toy Truck. "The toy trucks which have been a tradition for 48 years will continue," a Hess spokesperson said, adding that "this November, the company will continue to sell the trucks at their stores." Since 1964, Hess Corporation has sold its classic toy trucks; offering a variety of collectible miniature trucks to consumers at the start of the holiday season each year in November. Despite the corporation's impending closure of its 1,350 retail gas stations, consumers will still be able to find the eclectic toys at Hess …

It's a shame the newer trucks will never reach the same value of the originals. Too many collectors equals a flooded market . A dime a dozen now   more ›

Hess to Rid Itself of Its Retail Gas Station Businesses

The Woodbridge-based oil business will now divest itself of 1,350 gas stations, many of which operate in New Jersey and 17 other Eastern Seaboard states.

The familiar green and white Hess signs that dot the Woodbridge landscape and much of New Jersey may soon be no more. Hess Corporation announced Monday in a letter to shareholders at their annual meeting that it was divesting itself of its retail gasoline and convenience store operations, in an effort to restructure the company and improve its balance sheet. The move will affect 1,350 gas stations - many owned by Hess itself - that operate in 18 states on the Eastern Seaboard. The gas stations serve as many as 1.3 million customers a day, according to a report in Supermarket News. Hess did not say when it would begin either closing or selling off its gas stations, although a press release accompanying the news said that their closure, …

Major HVAC Manufacturer Moves In

SSM Industries moved its Philadelphia operations to West Deptford's Mid-Atlantic Corporate Center.

Calling it "a major win" for the county and local workers, Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen Sweeney and other county officials welcomed SSM Industries, a custom designer and manufacturer of ductwork and piping, and its 70 employees to the Mid-Atlantic Corporate Center Tuesday. Thomas Szymczak, SSM's president, called the company's new 46,000-square-foot building "a great facility in a great location," adding that the business will be there long term. Though the economic downturn had hurt the company recently, Szymczak said he sees a turn in the market, which, along with a grant from the state Economic Development Authority's Business Employee Incentive Program, could mean the company could add to its workforce in the next 10 …

Community Warms Up to Hot Yoga

Laughing Buddha Hot Yoga brings a unique style to Gloucester County.

Initially, Myya Pavone was a little cool to the idea of opening a hot yoga studio in West Deptford. Used to practicing in yoga meccas such as Philadelphia and Voorhees, Pavone was skeptical about bringing her lesser-known style of yoga to such a small town. "When I first decided to open the studio here, people would say, 'Are you crazy? It's South Jersey; people don't get it.'" But when she explored the area a little more, Pavone instantly warmed up to the location. "Everyone says when you find the right space, you'll know it, and I couldn't talk myself out of it. I just felt that this was my opportunity to bring something that might not be accessible to people in this area. Down here, it's new. There's a greater curiosity." The concept of…

SSM Industries Opening In Industrial Park

The HVAC manufacturing company moves its Philly operations to West Deptford.

SSM Industries, Inc., a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer of heating, ventilation and air conditioning products, including ductwork and piping for nuclear power plants, will cut the ribbon on its new home in the West Deptford Industrial Park Tuesday. The company, which is shifting operations from Philadelphia, estimates 70 high-paying new jobs will be created at the new location. The move was driven by a desire to expand business in New Jersey, as well as a 10-year grant through the state's Business Employment Incentive Program, according to Tom Szymczak, SSM Industries' president. In a statement, Szymczak praised the coordinated efforts of multiple government agencies, including West Deptford Mayor Anna Docimo, Lieutenant Gov. Kimberly …
