Haddonfield uses a 17-0 run in the final 2:30 of the first half to take control of the game.
Thursday night was an exhibition in what can be accomplished in a short period of time. For instance, the West Deptford High School boys’ basketball team was able to hold Haddonfield scoreless for the first two minutes, 30 seconds of its Colonial Conference Liberty Division rivalry game against Haddonfield. The Bulldawgs did something a little more spectacular with the final 2:30 of the first half. They scored 17 unanswered points. Haddonfield turned an eight-point deficit into a nine-point halftime lead over the final 2:30 of the first half and pulled away in the second half for a convincing 67-40 win. “It was just a lot of energy plays that got us going there,” said Haddonfield forward Chris Biddle, who had seven points in that span. “We…

West Deptford boys' basketball took another top team to the wire, but fell in overtime, 72-68.
It wasn’t so long ago that the West Deptford High School boys’ basketball team would enter a gym like the one at Sterling and hope simply to leave the gym with a somewhat respectable score. Yet, there was junior Sean Langan with the ball in his hands as time was about to expire in regulation of a tie game between the Eagles and Knights. Langan rose up and released a shot that that, while slightly tipped, still looked like it was destined to swish through the net. The shot didn’t go in, and the Eagles would later fall in overtime, 72-68, but the moment was none-the-less symbolic of the type of rise the program has seen in a short period of time. West Deptford is at the point where it can now go on the road and go toe-to-toe with some of the…

The boys' basketball team has four new starters this season, but expects to move forward, not back.
There is a different feeling around the West Deptford High School boys’ basketball program these days. Some of it comes from the fact that therehas been a major roster turnover from a year ago, but most of it comes from all of the winning that has been going on over the past 12 months. Last year, the team surprised many by reaching the playoffs after winning a combined eight games the previous two seasons. The program followed with success during the fall and summer and now is looking to make a major statement as the regular season is set to tip-off today. “I think (the new attitude) has kind of been a culmination of winning last year, making the playoffs and then going 7-3 in summer league, 3-3 at team camp and winning the fall league,” …

West Deptford head coach Don Clark hopes this year's bunch changed the boys' basketball program's reputation for good.
When Don Clark entered the visiting locker room at Barnegat High School following his team’s loss in the first round of the Group 2 playoffs, he began to speak to his team like he had after the 26 games that preceded the defeat. He started to talk about the missed opportunities, the breakdowns and the mistakes that could have been avoided. But before he could ever get into his postgame rhythm, the West Deptford basketball coach stopped. This speech wasn’t going down that old beaten path. He would not allow it. “I started saying something about our shooting, and then I just said to myself, ‘What am I doing?’” Clark said. “There’s nothing I can say about this game that is going to impact these seniors going forward.” Instead, Clark began to …
