The Eagles will play the role of underdog yet again against heavily favored Holmdel.
A long week of waiting will be stretched out one more day for West Deptford boys' soccer. The Eagles' Group 2 state semifinal game against the Central Jersey champions, Holmdel, has been pushed back to Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. With rain and snow in the forecast for Tuesday, weather conditions are expected to be much more ideal on Wednesday for the game. The game will still be held at Toms River East. The Eagles, who won the South Jersey Group 2 championship last Monday in a thriller over Cinnaminson, will be entering the final four of the state tournament as the underdog, much in the same way that they have been throughout the sectional tournament. Holmdel enters the state semifinals as a well-known boys' soccer powerhouse. They have won …

West Deptford's Sydney Ponto had a no-hitter entering the seventh inning, yet was the hard-luck loser in 1-0 decision to Haddon Heights.
One hit. That’s all the Haddon Heights softball team managed off West Deptford ace Sydney Ponto. It was also all the Garnets would need. Mariah Hans blasted a one-out triple in the bottom of the seventh inning that plated the game’s only run, as No. 3 Haddon Heights eliminated No. 6 West Deptford, 1-0, in the NJSIAA South Jersey, Group 2 quarterfinals. Ponto was brilliant for the Eagles, pitching six and third hitless innings, but got tagged with the loss after the Eagles were unable to find a big hit against winning pitcher Shayla Sweeney. “I couldn’t have asked for anything more (from Ponto),” West Deptford coach Amanda Schramm said. “If you can’t win a game with your pitcher shutting down Haddon Heights for seven innings, then you don’t…

West Deptford fell in the first round of the playoffs, 69-41, to Barnegat.
After spending three months defying expectations and proving doubters wrong, the West Deptford High School boys’ basketball team finally ran out of steam Tuesday night. Back in the playoffs for the first time in four seasons, No. 12 West Deptford could not muster a perfect ending to their season of rise, falling to No. 5 Barnegat, 69-41. “I think it was just one of those things where the bubble just burst,” said West Deptford head coach Don Clark. “I think they did as much as they could for as long as they could all season, and it just came to an end. The seniors took us as far as we could go.” The Eagles came out of the gates ready for a showdown, and built a 9-8 lead midway through the first quarter. However, Barnegat scored the next …
Megan Knoblock and Paige Paratore each scored a season-high 12 points in West Deptford's playoff win over Deptford.
In preparation for the West Deptford High School girls’ basketball team's first home playoff game in over two decades, head coach J McKeown did his best to drum up support for the game. And though no one would compare his proclamation to that of Joe Namath or Mark Messier, the fifth-year coach did make a promise to some of his young students. “I had some kids from my fourth grade come and it was great,” McKeown said. “I told them in class, ‘You have to come, because we are going to win.’” McKeown was right, but he certainly couldn’t have predicted the way it would go down. With Megan Kirschling suffering an ankle injury in the first half and Tarryn Bundy saddled with foul trouble, it was the Eagles’ role players that stepped up big in No. …
