West Deptford Football Field House Plans Scuttled ... So What Now?

The West Deptford school board shot down a proposal to pay for new locker rooms for its football team—but the conditions onsite are still in disrepair, some say.

When the local school board voted down a proposal to privately fund the construction of a new field house for the West Deptford High School football team, a number of arguments were provided—that the provisional presentation could expose the district to Title IX liability; that the field house should be accessible to more than just football players; that it would incur unnecessary operational costs in the future. But testimonials from parents of student-athletes and others described the current locker-room conditions as unhealthy, which is the last thing that a cash-strapped body putting off $3.5 million in capital improvements needed to hear. I love how uneducated people make comments on things, that they have no idea about... If you don't like WD, then leave... Field House Dedicated to 9/11 Victim Brandemarti Proposed to BOE

Organizers want to build and donate a field house in Nick Brandemarti Jr.'s name to honor the terrorism victim. All that's left is the school board's OK—and fundraising.

With the Nicky Brandemarti Memorial Golf Tournament wrapping up after 10 years, members of the West Deptford community banded together to plan a final tribute in the Brandemarti's name. With seven months of planning behind them, organizers revealed their plans to the school board Monday to donate and construct a new field house to memorialize the fallen West Deptford High School alum.  After learning about the proposal 36 hours prior, school board President Christopher …

John Cobb Part of 2012 GC Sports Hall Of Fame Class

West Deptford soccer and golf coach John Cobb will be inducted into the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame Tuesday.

When John Cobb got a call from longtime coach and fellow West Deptford Hall of Fame member Sally Jordan informing him that he was about to be inducted to another prestigious institution, he began to think back. “It makes you reflect on a lot of things, I think,” said Cobb, who will be inducted in to the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday. “When I was fortunate enough to get in West Deptford Hall of Fame, my father was still alive, and I thought a lot about that. He won’t be around this time. That’s something I thought a lot about, because my father played such a big role in shaping my life.” Cobb—who is among the 13 new inductees to the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame during the 32nd Annual Induction Banquet on March 27…
