Marching Band Proclamation, Sewerage Refunds on Committee Agenda for Thursday

The Township will refund more than $32,000 in water and sewer charges due to billing errors, according to its published agenda.

Refunds and recognition should top new business at the West Deptford Township Committee meeting Thursday night (7 p.m., West Deptford Township Municipal Building). According to its published agenda, the governing body plans to clear at least $32,000 off its books in the form of 3 separate resolutions related to water and sewer charges "due to errors in the meter readings," "a data entry error," and "bills being mailed to an incorrect address." The Committee is also expected to take additional action on a pair of energy resolutions related to the West Deptford Energy Station (LS Power) and the Mantua Grove Solar Farm. Finally, fans of the West Deptford Marching Band should tune in for a proclamation acknowledging its "Outstanding Musical …

West Deptford Energy Inks Long-Term Fuel Contract for New Power Facility

South Jersey Industries announce 15-year contract to supply the future West Deptford Energy Station with natural gas supplies and management services.

A little less than a year after its groundbreaking ceremony, West Deptford Energy agreed to a 15-year contract with South Jersey Resources Group (SJRG) in order to supply fuel management services to the future power plant.   Under the 15-year contract, SJGR will provide natural gas supplies and management services for those supplies to the West Deptford Energy Station. The contract also grants SJGR exclusive rights to extend those services to the additional 400-megawatt expansion, if it is constructed as planned. “We are extremely pleased to be part of this project as it will add a clean and cost-efficient power generation source in New Jersey and will support the local economy with jobs,” said South Jersey Industries Chairman Edward …

With Power Plant Still Possible, County Extends Deal

LS Power will pony up $1 million as part of extending the deadline to buy 302 acres for the project until next August.

LS Power finally caught a break. After getting shut out of a state incentive program back in March, and with a deadline looming on an agreement with Gloucester County to buy 302 acres for their proposed 620-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant, the company scored a breather Wednesday night. The freeholders voted unanimously to extend that land agreement, which was set to expire in a few weeks, through next summer, clearing away a potentially derailing block for the planned power plant. There was a catch, though. The extension includes a nonrefundable $1 million deposit by LS Power, which would come off the total proposed $14 million sale price for the property. The county originally bought those 302 acres from West Deptford for $9.3 …

This would be such sad news for the West Deptford republicans after they lambasted the local government leaders for pursuing this project. $107 million in tax revenue. Wow.   more ›

Freeholders Mulling LS Power Deal

A contract with the company to buy 302 acres for its proposed power plant in West Deptford expires in about a month.

When West Deptford Energy, LLC’s proposed natural gas-fired power plant was left out of a state incentive program back in March, it was seen as a major setback. A 4-year-old deal with the county, which is set to expire later this summer, to buy the land for the project off Paradise Road might be a bigger stumbling block, however. West Deptford Energy’s parent company, LS Power, struck a deal to buy 302 acres from the county–land the county originally bought from West Deptford for $9.3 million in 2007–but that deal only has weeks left before the county either grants an extension or nixes the sale under the current terms. While the freeholders headed to a closed session Wednesday night to discuss the negotiations with the company, Freeholder…
