A grand jury in Gloucester County indicted a Trenton man accused of gunning down a 25-year-old man in Paulsboro. Daron D. Trent, 28, is charged in the indictment with one first-degree count of murder and weapons offenses. The indictment was handed up Wednesday. On Nov. 30, 2011, Trent got out of a 2000 Lexus on West Washington Street, pulled out a two-tone machine gun and shot Jamaal Barker, 25, a father of two, execution-style, prosecutors said. Barker was a Camden resident. A state grand jury on Wednesday indicted a Paulsboro man accused of killing a great-grandmother who had survived cancer. The grand jury, sitting in Woodbury, indicted Samuel Kevin Davis, 46, on charges of first-degree murder, two third-degree counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a second-degree count of aggravated assault, and two fourth-degree counts of unlawful possession of a weapon. He is accused of killing 79-year-old Thirza Sweeten inside her Paulsboro home on March 19. She died from both blunt- and sharp-force trauma, and the murder weapons were reportedly found at the scene. Samuel Kevin Davis, who was the person of interest police identified just days after the slaying of 79-year-old Thirza Sweeten, has been charged with murder and weapons offenses. Sweeten was found dead in her gray bungalow at the corner of South Delaware and Jessup streets in Paulsboro on March 19, after her daughter came to the home to check on her. A suspect has been charged in Gloucester County's first murder of 2012, but the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office declined to name the man ahead of a scheduled Friday press conference. The charges stem from the death of 79-year-old Thirza Sweeten, whose body was found in her Paulsboro home by relatives on March 19. Paulsboro police and the prosecutor's office interviewed about 20 people in the days following the discovery, and had identified a person of interest just days later, though prosecutors never identified that person. A 79-year-old Paulsboro woman died of multiple injuries, including blunt-force trauma, according to autopsy results released by the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office Wednesday. Investigators are still trying to locate Thirza Sweeten's killer, though, after the Delaware Street resident was found dead in her home Monday evening. A Paulsboro woman's death is being called a murder, the first in Gloucester County this year, after her body was found by relatives Monday evening. Thirza Sweeten, 79, who lived alone in her home on South Delaware Avenue, had multiple injuries, police said, when her daughter found her body just after 6 p.m. Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office (GCPO) spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said there's no suspect in custody, and Paulsboro police and the GCPO are continuing to investigate the crime. A bail reduction was denied Friday for the alleged triggerman in the November 2011 murder of a Camden man in Paulsboro. Daron Trent, 27, of Hamilton (Mercer), NJ, was seeking to have his $750,000 bail reduced, but after arguments from prosecutors and a description of the machine-gun killing, Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson denied that motion, ruling the bail figure is an appropriate amount. One man has been arrested and more charges are expected in the Nov. 30 murder of Jamaal Barker in Paulsboro, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday. Daron Trent, 27, of Hamilton Township in Mercer County, was arrested and charged Dec. 14 with the murder and related weapons offenses. He's currently in jail in Mercer County on $750,000 bail.
