West Deptford Falls Short Against Sterling in Consolation Game

Coming off of a loss against Cherry Hill East, West Deptford is defeated by Sterling, 52-23.

After losing to Cherry Hill East the day before, the West Deptford Eagles were unable to do better against Sterling Friday night. Playing for the second day of the West Deptford Holiday Hoops Tournament, Sterling was able to beat West Deptford with almost a 30-point lead, ending in a of score 52-23. Sterling took an early lead in the first quarter, scoring 16 unanswered points. In the second quarter, West Deptford was able to put some points up on the board—however not enough to catch up with Sterling, which consistently outscored the Eagles every quarter. Top scorers for West Deptford included Gabby Minnite and Michelle Bower, who both scored four points each. Natalie Carrero also contributed five points to her team with two baskets, …

Girls' Basketball Excited to Host West Deptford Holiday Hoops Tournament

Head coach Casey Heitman says that her girls are excited to be playing in their own gym this year.

After making it to the finals last year, the West Deptford girls' basketball team is looking forward to the Holiday Hoops Tournament, which comes with one big bonus this year—homefield advantage. With the host of the tournament rotating between the four teams each year, it is now the Eagles' turn. Starting Thursday, Dec. 27, the tournament opens in the high school gymnasium at 1 p.m. with Gloucester Catholic squaring off against Sterling. West Deptford will participate in the second game at 3 p.m., against Cherry Hill East.  The tournament will resume the following day with the consolation game kicking off at 1 p.m., followed by the championship game at 3 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to first and second place in the tournament.  Head …
