Hansen Gets 1,000, But WD Boys Basketball Bows Out of Playoffs

The Eagles get bounced by Medford Tech, 71-50, in the South Jersey, Group 2 playoffs.

Justin Hansen became the second West Deptford player in the past two years to crack the 1,000-point scoring mark, but the Eagles couldn't contend with the relentless offense of Medford Tech, dropping out of the South Jersey, Group 2 playoffs with a 71-50 loss Wednesday. Hansen, who scored 14, and Tyler Leonhardt (15 points) combined for the bulk of West Deptford's offense, which started out quick but couldn't keep up with Medford Tech, which piled up 27 points in the first quarter, mostly behind the shooting of Myles Powell, who drained four three-pointers in the first on his way to 27 points for the game. Eagles Score First Home Playoff Win Since ... Maybe Ever

The West Deptford boys basketball team defeated Overbook, 77-42, in the first round of the Group 2 playoffs. Meanwhile, the girls basketball team was eliminated.

Don Clark paused for a minute as he tried to think back to the last time the West Deptford High School boys basketball program won a home playoff game. After thinking for a brief moment, the Eagles head coach came to what he believed to be an accurate response. “I don’t know if they ever did,” said Clark. Yes, Monday night was a special evening for the West Deptford boys basketball program as the No. 6 Eagles took it to No. 11 Overbrook, 77-42, in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 playoffs. The Eagles, who tied a school record with their 19th win, led by just nine points at the half, but exploded on a 27-11 run in the third quarter to put the game away.
